Trust God & He Will Provide

In my last three posts, I have been writing about God as our Provider. I fully believe with all that is in me that God gives us all we need and more. A recent prayer of mine has been to look to God more and to trust Him. That is why I wanted to share Proverbs 3:5-6 with you:
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
      And lean not on your own understanding;
       6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
      And He shall direct your paths.

          Something very awesome has been happening in my thought process lately. As I have been posting and sharing with you all the ways I have seen God provide for me and as I ask you to think and share how God provides to you in your life, I began noticing a pattern. Everyday I was more and more aware of all that God has provided. It reminded of a group study at church. This study was titled “Vertically Inclined” and discussed thinking, looking, and doing all things to be vertically inclined. In other words, all that we do should be for the Lord. Every thought and action we take should have a vertical direction behind it. Vertical - get it?
          In the past two weeks, I have had a lot on my plate. Remember as a child, when you had that one vegetable you absolutely hated on your plate at the end of dinner and you did not want to eat it? For me it was stemmed veggies (and probably many other things my mom remembers and I don’t). Something about mushy veggies – yuck! I liked (and still prefer) my vegetables to be crunchy! If it’s mushy it better be mashed ‘taters with gravy J or broccoli with cheese melted over it -mmmhmm!! I think the last two weeks have been a lot like those steamed, mushy vegetables. The weeks haven’t been bad for me, but like those steamed veggies I had to eat as a little girl I just haven’t really liked the way they’ve ‘gone down’.
          I have done a lot of reflection over the last few weeks in an attempt to see God’s hand in my life and be ‘vertically inclined’. I am blessed with a great family, great friends, a great job, and (as I am sure you realize) I could go on and on about all the great things God has provided me. Still, I have felt like I have had a full plate of vegetables cooked my least favorite way. Luckily, I survived those long nights at the kitchen counter or 'bar' as we fondly called it. My family had long been done with their dinner as I stared at those last few icky bites. Just as my mom assured me I would live through eating those vegetables, God promises if I trust in Him with all my heart He will guide my path. I am so thankful that God’s amazing grace is enough to save even me! All I have to do is trust in Him and He will lead me. No matter what yucky vegetables are on my plate. God provides direction through all things. Guidance – mark that down as something else God provides.

What do you remember hating but having to eat as a child? Leave a comment below.

Do you ever feel like your plate is full? Do you ever have lots of things happening in life that you're not super fond of? Do you ask God to provide direction through those challenges?

  1. I couldn't help but smile as I read this. I found myself thinking things around the same line the other day. It was comforting to know that someone else was experiencing the same things or around the same feelings that I was. I miss you and am now gonna become a loyal reader to your blog.

Stay and See Jesus for Yourself

Recently during our Wednesday night women's class, we were listening to part of Priscilla Shirer's portion on the DVD series 'Unwrap the Bible'. We hadn't yet made it all the way through Priscilla's portion when I noticed myself writing these words in my notes, 'Stay and See Jesus for Yourself'. Now, I won't steal Priscilla's thunder or her great points. (I couldn't do it justice.) Let me just say, those words I wrote seemed to leap off the page at me: Stay and see Jesus for yourself. How often do I run ahead of God, too often! Still, at some point I seem to remember to come back to Him and ask for mercy, grace, and direction to walk His way instead of my own. How often do I hang back not willing to jump in to something He has for me? I think of a C.S. Lewis quote, 'There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.' I mean that's exactly what Paul tells us, right? For us to live is Christ and to di

God Provides All Things

For the last several months I have been attending a new church. I know God led me to this church, and I just feel so blessed to be there. I didn’t start attending this church in a time that the members would consider a ‘mountain top’ season. The church body has experienced many challenges in the last several months and to some it has been a season in the valley. To me, it has been uplifting, and I praise God for what He has provided me through the church. I have enjoyed meeting the body of Christ that attends this church. (Sometimes you learn more about people through adversity and a stormy time than you do in a peaceful, sunny one.) Still, I had not yet been able to tithe at the church. I prayed about it constantly. In my strong attention to detail I knew monthly, even weekly how much money I was supposed to be dropping in the offering plate as it passed by me. I just couldn’t. I prayed about my struggle. I knew it was dangerous to give to the Lord half-heartedly. This was especially

Books I Read in 2015

I have always loved biographies and autobiographies. From an early age I sought out books that were true. As I grew older, books that were about real people and how their lives developed continued to capture my attention.  Biographical/Nonfiction <<<< Non-fiction, History, Aviation Science Fiction >>>> Of course, as I read more and more 'real life' stories which are usually about triumphant and success, I become drawn to self help and improvement. A few years ago I realized, all I ever read were self-help and 'real life' books (in addition to the textbooks and other reading materials that correlated with my graduate studies). I had a friend re-introduce Karen Kingsbury to me... and along the way I picked up some Christian Fiction and additional 'chick-lit'. I try to be careful when it comes to these .   Sweet Girl by Rachel Hollis - I enjoy Rachel's blog/website (The Chic Site),
