Commitment Day 1

Welcome to Commitment Day 1. This is the first post in a 31 Day series with a focus on Commitment. To see a list of all posts by day click here.

Committed to Who You Are

Who are you? No, really. It’s a question. Please consider it.
Are you still reading, friend? Please stop and think about it. I’ll wait on you…..

Perhaps when you first read the question ‘Who are you?’ several nouns ran through your mind: Christian, daughter, mother, father, son, brother, sister, friend, worker bee, athlete, writer, business owner. Or maybe your brain was descriptive and lots of adjectives came up: I am funny, thoughtful, driven, ambitious, focused. Depending upon what type of mood you’re in or how hectic your day has been, your thoughts may range more along these lines: I am tired, scatter-brained, stretched too thin, unsuccessful, klutzy, frustrated, unchangeable, broken, unloved.

Psst!! Friend, let me share this truth with you: You are a marvelous work of God wonderfully and fearfully made! (Psalm 139:14) The Creator of the universe made you! He loves you and wants you to be His. For those of us who have accepted Christ and are children of God we are a NEW creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). “Christ in you, the hope of glory” Colossians 1:27

Now, I want to ask you again… Who are you?

Better yet who are you committed to being?

Are you who Christ made you? Or are you focused on the lies the devil would have you to believe?

I struggle sometimes with who I am. I am sure anyone who is honest would admit to that. I also find the closer I am to God the less I struggle to answer the question of who I am. The Bible talks about that too! “What shall we say in response to these things. If God is for us who can be against?...No one…Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?...in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us...nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:31-39

We are conquerors! We are loved.
So, who are you committed to being?

  1. Love this post! (And I have been loving that video lately, too.) I've thought a lot lately about how figuring out who I am has so much less to do with the person I've been and so much more to do with the woman I want to be...who God calls and equips me to be for His glory. Thanks for sharing, Rebekah!

Five Minute Fridays

Five Minute Fridays is where Gypsy Mama ( click here to visit her blog ) encourages everyone to write for five minutes. No edits. No over analyzing (which is the direct opposite of how I work and that's why I participate so I can get out of my comfort zone, learn, and grow). You can join too! Just write (or think) for five minutes. Today's topic is 'unexpected'. Unexpected Unexpected can be so good…. Like when that kind person at the grocery store with a full cart lets you in front since you only have a handful of items… Or when your friend calls you out of the blue just to say hey…. When you receive a gift just because…. Those kind words from the person you had no idea you meant anything to or even had an affect on… People can do things so unexpected. Then, there’s God. I know He is the Creator of everything. He loves unconditionally. He provides all things. God will never leave us or forsake us. God is always with us. God always has a plan. Still, when Go...

Steadfast Love

In the last few weeks, I have been struggling… I can see all the ways God blesses me. All the ways He provides. I know in almost all my posts since I started writing on this blog about two months ago have been about how God takes care of us. I’m telling you it is like an annoying habit! You focus for just a few days on what God’s provided for you, and then it becomes a constant way your mind works. (It’s kind of like how people are doing 30 days of thanks on Facebook. I know it seems redundant and maybe even a little annoying to you, but you see for those people posting daily status updates on thanks has become a habit. A way of life for them.)           So, what’s my struggle? It is about love. Do you ever wonder about love? Why does your friend love you when you know your singing gets on her last nerve? Why does your significant other love you when you would rather recount your entire d...

Five Minute Fridays

I follow several blogs, but there are only a handful I read daily including Rainmakers and Stormchasers, http://www.jennyrain.com/ . Jenny has a blog friend who does Five Minute Fridays where you write on a given topic for five minutes, post your writing unedited, and encourage others to do the same. Today’s topic was 'Remember'. Here's my unedited five minutes on 'Remember'...(What did you do on your lunch break?).... Remember...  I remember those times… with family and friends… Those long seemingly endless summer days at Memaw’s with my sister, brother, and cousins…I remember waiting on mom to come in for lunch…And those special days when Aunt Barb came too…Oh the days we spent at Aunt Barb’s…I remember loving… Then, there were those mornings before school where we all gathered around the breakfast table…Memaw always prepared a feast…we would argue over who’s turn it was to say the pray…but I remember all the other conversations were so good…I remember ...
