Five Minute Fridays. It's time! No editing, no backtracking, and no over-thinking. Just writing for five minutes on today's topic.
“Bloom”
‘Bloom where you are planted’ comes to my mind when I first
read that word…
I had lunch with a dear friend yesterday – my mother-in-love.
Yes, it sounds a little corny at first but it will grow on you. My friend
sweetly called me her daughter-in-love yesterday, so I thought it was a great
way to start thinking of all of my ‘in-laws’ as ‘in-loves’. Perhaps you should
walk this brand new path with me…Any takers?
OR for those of you who have been married well beyond my…uhh...let’s see…7 weeks tomorrow! Ya’ll probably have way better ways of thinking and loving new family. Care to share?
I didn’t intend for this post to be about new family… I thought it would be more about growing and learning and thriving where God has placed you right now!
I guess in a small way … or maybe in no small way… considering new family is definitely all about blooming!
New flowers are so delicate… I think there is definitely a reason scripture often refers to a tree of life instead of a flower. Can you imagine?! Flowers are so short lived. Trees... now they are another story entirely!
In Sunday school we were studying Proverbs 13. There were two verses that spoke to me in different ways than the class was going. Both spoke to ‘the long haul’ not the short term.
Proverbs 13:12 ”Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But
when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” (You’ll probably want some
context for this verse so I encourage you to read the previous verses! In a
nutshell this verse to me is about when we yearn and want something and we don’t
see it come to be for a long while, then it does happen we are so grateful and
sustained. Thus, the tree of life is referenced.)
Proverbs 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” I am not yet a parent, but I do know and witness so many parents who want the very best for their children. Still, the Bible demonstrates that a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children. While it definitely must take a lot to raise children… this verse demonstrates to me how we think of today and maybe try to plan for tomorrow. And often times that is a stretch of our time and resources! Yet, Scripture wants us to go even further!
How much better would our new relationships be if we remembered God’s perspective on things?
My five minutes are quickly running out and I have definitely been all over the place in this post… I hope if you’re struggling with where you are you will consider the phrase ‘bloom where you are planted’. God calls us just as we are where we are. Look to Him. Also, perhaps you’re like me and although I am not new to my ‘new’ family. My relationship with my husband and his family definitely needs lots of tender love and care since it is growing and delicate like that of a brand new bloom… I pray I can remember scripture and the viewpoint revealed to me in Sunday School.
I love the concept of "mother in love". So sweet!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo true- all of our relationships would bloom with much beauty if we have God's perspective. Good job with this post!
